How In-Home Care Promotes an Independent & Holistic Lifestyle

By 2050, the population of people in the United States over the age of 65 is estimated to reach 83.7 million. At the same time, individuals over the age of 85 are expected to make up 4.3 percent of the population. As the elderly population continues to grow, the concern for long-term care is essential because approximately 1.5 million people will be in need of it.

According to the American Association of Retired Persons, a majority of senior citizens intend to continue living in their homes for as long as possible. Being at home provides a sense of comfort and independence by allowing people to live in the home they worked so hard to afford and maintain over the years. By utilizing in-home care, seniors can have the best of both worlds; an independent & holistic lifestyle as well as preventative care that will reduce readmission.

The ever-changing world of technology continues to improve the activities of daily living (ADL). ADL’s include: assistance bathing and grooming, medicine management, assistance with pharmacy refills, and light housekeeping tasks that are too challenging for elderly individuals.  One way to give more independence to seniors living at home is teaching them how to incorporate today’s technology into their lives. Utilizing tools, such as smart, wireless pill bottles and smartphone apps can help remind older adults to take their medicine, order refills and schedule doctor’s appointments.
