Poet’s Walk San Antonio Celebrates Marjorie Dewitt’s 100th Birthday

On February 2, 2017, family, friends and senior residents came together to celebrate the 100th Birthday of Marjorie Dewitt at Poet’s Walk San Antonio. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to her as pianist Arland Schnacker accompanied the song with a delightful melody. The room was filled with decorations, balloons, birthday cake, and of course, good times for all! Schnacker continued to perform at the Birthday celebration, playing some of Dewitt’s favorite songs.

Dewitt was born on February 2, 1917 in Pittsburg, Kansas, where she was raised with four siblings. Her father was a carpenter and built their family home.  Dewitt went to the University of Pittsburg for a degree in teaching.  She loved to travel and decided when she was young to move to Hawaii and work in civil service. While she was there she met her husband Edward R. Dewitt; he was also working in civil service.  His hobby at the time was photography. They met in the dark room, fell in love and were married for 49 years.  They moved around for Edward’s job and Margie worked as a high school teacher. They have two daughters, Nancy and Anna, a grandson named Scooter, and one great grandchild. Dewitt loves playing volleyball, listing to live performers and eating shrimp! She is full of life and can always brighten someone’s day and make them laugh.
