Seniors Participate in an Earth Day Inspired Experiment at Poet’s Walk Fredericksburg

Earth Day was celebrated in a 2-part event testing the biodegradablity of items at Poet’s Walk Fredericksburg. During part one of the experiment on April 1, the senior’s buried an assortment of items in the ground including Styrofoam, foil, plastic bags, cardboard, fabric, apples, banana peels and more. Later in the month, the items were dug up so the seniors can see which items have begun to decompose.

After carefully examining the items, everyone discussed how long it takes things to decompose followed by a conversation on the importance of properly eliminating waste. The Earth Day Experiment inspired the seniors to recycle more often, and help make the planet a healthier place for the next generation.
