What To Ask When Touring A Memory Care Community

Placing a loved one inside of a senior living community or memory care facility can be tough. Taking care of loved ones to the point that it’s best to seek help is a tough internal battle to have. Here at Poet’s walk, we pride ourselves in “dancing” with our residents.

We created Poet’s Walk, A Spring Hills Memory Care Community to provide an engaging atmosphere that encourages a compassionate, person-centered approach to senior living. Below is a guide of questions to ask when touring a memory care community when you make your decision.

We wanted to first state, that no matter what, you must always trust your instincts. Whether we are the right facility for you or not, trust your gut. We hope your tour guide is friendly and gives you a tour that allows you to trust that we are the right memory care community for you and your family.

Would you have your own loved one live here?

This is by far the most important question to ask. And here’s why. By asking this question you will be able to get a raw and emotional response from your tour guide. It will allow that individual to think about their own family and give you a candid and real response. As you experience the Round Rock facility, it’s our goal to make you feel like you’re apart of our family.

What is your staff to resident ratio?

At Poet’s Walk, we want to make sure your loved one is taken care of and well attended. By asking this question on your quest to find the perfect memory care community for your loved one, you will be able to get a better understanding of the importance of individual care.

How many staffers are on duty overnight?

At a memory care community, experiences happen 24/7. Night time is no different. We carefully staff our team all hours of the night. Be sure to still ask this question in person.

What are the credentials of staff members?

We take pride in our staff and we make sure that every Poet’s Walk staff member is not only trained properly but is grounded in our “Signature Touch” philosophy. Our Signature Touch is part of our standards we uphold that not only meets your expectations but exceeds it.

Can we see a model room?

Whether you’re walking into our facility or not, it’s critical to see where your loved one could be living. Make sure all safety measures are met and it will be easy for your loved one to get around. To get a better understanding of our rooms, check out our floor plans.

How friendly are the residents?

We welcome you to sit down with one of our residents, if willing and able, and get a better idea of how they are enjoying their stay. We can even put you in contact with some of our favorite families that have received our signature touch.

What kind of Activities do you offer?

At most memory care communities, there is a list of activities for your loved one to do. We are no different. You can check our activities here:

  • And so much more.

Do you have any outdoor space?

Of course, we do. When you schedule a tour, make sure to bring a book for your loved one to read. It’s so peaceful, you may want to catch a quick nap before you head home.

Are you heavily connected throughout the community, and if so, what connections do you have?

Although this is on a per instance basis, we welcome all guests to tour dining room and have lunch to get a better idea of what’s cooking in the kitchen.

Do you mind if we speak to current residents and families?

We don’t mind at all. In fact, we encourage it. Be sure to ask your tour guide for references. If you decide not to go with Poet’s Walk, ask for references and the ability to interview individuals within the facility that are willing to talk to you.
